Gas boilers without electricity. Non-volatile boiler - choice. Types of floor non-volatile boilers

Can a gas boiler work without electricity? This question often arises among the owners of private houses, who constantly have to deal with significant bills related to paying for electricity, because in addition to household appliances and light sources, sometimes you have to pay for an electric boiler not as little as you would like. Therefore, it is advisable to get acquainted with the features of the operation of such an installation as a gas non-volatile boiler.

A gas boiler without electricity is presented in the form of a classic model of a floor appliance, the operation of which is possible without the use of additional power supplies. The main purpose of such an installation is to heat water in buildings where power outages can be encountered quite often. For example, residents of rural areas or frequent arrays often suffer from a constant lack of light. In addition, technological progress does not stand still, and many manufacturers produce double-circuit boilers, while in such installations the gas consumption is significantly reduced, and heating can also be adjusted.

Since a gas boiler without electricity is quite in demand these days, due to its high quality and efficiency, many manufacturers are engaged in the manufacture of various models of such installations. The latest innovations from manufacturers are wall-mounted boilers that fit well with the required heating circulation according to the convection principle.

In simple words, a wall-mounted gas boiler without electricity works according to the following scheme: after heating, water rises up to the pipe, from where it passes into the system. To ensure constant trouble-free circulation, the pipes leading to the unit should be mounted at the right angle, while their diameter should correspond to average values. It is also worth paying attention to the installation position, the boiler is usually placed at the lowest point of the heating structure.

Some owners of private plots prefer to enhance the efficiency of a gas-fired non-volatile boiler by connecting a special pump, which in turn is powered by electricity. Thus, it is possible to pump the coolant, which enhances the operation of the gas boiler.

Important! When the pump is turned off, the non-volatile installation operates in an independent mode.

Features of the design of a non-volatile installation

Gas boilers of this type are distinguished by the following equipment:

  1. A pair of gas burners, ignition and main purpose;
  2. Open type combustion chamber;
  3. A system that ensures the automatic operation of the device;
  4. Thermal sensors to ensure the safety of the installation, backdraft valve;
  5. Heat exchanger.
Important! Features of the non-volatile gas boiler system are the operation of an open expanded tank, due to which the liquid expands when the coolant is heated. This process ensures the circulation of the coolant. The expansion of water is accompanied by the formation of excess liquid, which passes to the tank itself.

The ignition of such an installation is provided by a piezoelectric element, which starts working a second after the button is turned on. Its purpose is to heat the pilot burner, which in turn ignites the main gas burner. Thus, a heat exchanger is connected to the work, which is responsible for maintaining the required water temperature. Over time, the gas supply stops, the heat exchanger parts cool down, therefore, all steps are repeated.

Pros and cons of using independent boilers

The main advantage that all floor-standing gas boilers without electricity have is their ability to work regardless of the mains. In addition, the installation does not require additional wiring to the room and sockets, which can significantly save money.

The advantages of using such an installation also include ease and safety in using this element of the heating system. The simple appearance of the boiler is ideal for providing heat transfer in a small house or a large private building.

In addition, such gas heating boilers operate silently, especially when installing such a type of device as a double-circuit gas boiler without electricity, since pumps that create annoying noise are excluded from its design. At the same time, they are distinguished by special reliability and durability of this type of element of the heating system. Such criteria are ensured thanks to the experience of manufacturers who, over many years of production, have brought the installation to an ideal state. At the same time, attention should also be paid to the high efficiency indicators of boilers. A double-circuit boiler can not only provide the desired temperature in the required building, but also take care of the supply of hot water.

Heat exchangers of such installations are characterized by a long service life.

The negative aspects of gas boilers operating without electricity:

  1. Installation of this type of boiler is possible only in houses with good draft in the chimney, on which the quality and safety of the operation of the entire heating system with such an element will depend.

  • If sufficient draft is neglected, constant fire extinctions can be observed, provoked by a triggered backdraft valve.
  • The operation of such an installation does not always correspond to the required level. For example, when selecting the pipes leading to the boiler with the wrong diameter, you can install the device incorrectly, which will negatively affect its operation.
  • The principle of operation of the boiler

    Due to the lack of access to energy supply, two-chamber boilers are equipped with special thermogenerators that are responsible for the state of the burner by stopping the gas supply to it. This process is provided by the influence of the coolant on the regulator. The automatic system provided in the boiler restarts gas access as soon as the coolant has completely cooled down. Ignition for this is provided by the operation of a piezoelectric element, the task of which is to ignite the pilot burner. if necessary, the piezoelectric element starts the ignition of the main element, which in turn is responsible for heating the liquid in the entire heating system.

    Determination of types of non-volatile gas boilers

    Basically, gas-fired non-volatile boilers are classified as follows:

    1. single-circuit gas boilers without electricity - designed to work exclusively as an element of the heat supply system;
    2. double-circuit - installations capable of providing not only heat supply in the heating system, but also water heating.

    Determination of a suitable model of such an installation as a gas boiler without electricity

    The main guideline for determining a suitable model of such an installation as an autonomous gas boiler without electricity is the correspondence of its power for heating the required area, while this characteristic must also correspond to the load on the installation. more serious price category. This is explained by the increased quality, design and more advanced functionality of the device compared to domestic counterparts. At the same time, it is necessary to determine the manufacturer of the gas installation with special diligence, it is especially worth considering the presence of service centers of the represented company in the city or nearby, because the device requires maintenance and sometimes repair.

    The following companies are among the most popular and high-quality manufacturers of gas autonomous boilers: the Italian manufacturers Alphatherm and Beretta - Italy, the Slovenian company Attack, Czech-made Protherm and Swiss-made Electrolux.

    Although models from domestic manufacturers are more attractive in terms of price, their reliability does not always correspond to the level of foreign analogues. Although they have their own special advantage - the models are produced in all respects corresponding to the use of boilers under local temperature conditions.

    It is better to give preference to a gas boiler with heat exchangers for the manufacture of which cast iron or steel was used, while special attention should be paid to the first version of the material.
    . Such preferences can be easily explained by the impressive service life of the cast-iron element, because this type of coolant can last up to three decades, while the steel part will last no more than twenty years. In addition, the cast iron coolant has high strength characteristics, since the walls made of cast iron will be much thicker than those of steel, and practice shows that such a device will last much longer and more efficiently.

    In addition, after many years of using a gas boiler, the heat exchanger tends to corrode. At the same time, cast iron is more preferable than steel. Corrosion on this element of the device may occur as a result of a drop in temperature, which entails the formation of condensate. Corrosion processes in such cases are provoked by the released moisture.

    In addition, the design of the heat exchanger provides for the presence of sections. If one of them is unsuitable, it is not advisable to change the entire heat exchanger, a replacement is enough. At these production stages, all kinds of impurities are added to cast iron, which significantly increase the strength characteristics of the boiler as a whole, which provides it with additional safety during transportation.

    Let's figure out how a gas boiler works, and consider its main components. Outside there is a casing, at the bottom of which there is a control panel. It houses the power button, operating mode selection, pressure gauge and thermometer. In modern models, there is also a screen that displays information about the status of the equipment and error codes in case of breakdowns.

    One or two chimney pipes come out from above. One is installed in models with an open combustion chamber, it is immediately discharged into the chimney, as in the Immergas Nike Star E series. Two in devices with a closed combustion chamber, such as Bosch Gaz. Using a corrugated pipe, they are connected to a coaxial chimney, and then it goes outside.

    Below is a fan to remove combustion products. The primary heat exchanger is installed under it. An expansion tank is located to the left or on the back of the case. At the bottom of the heat exchanger there is a combustion chamber, inside which there is a burner, a transformer and ignition electrodes.

    The circulation pump, three-way valve and secondary plate heat exchanger (in two-circuit configurations) are mounted on the lower left side. To the right is the electronic control board and the gas valve.

    A pipe with a heat carrier is introduced from below, which is connected to the circulation pump and the inlet to the heat exchanger. A pipe exits the heat exchanger down to connect to the heating system. Gas and running water are also supplied from below for the hot water supply system.

    Operating principle

    The cold coolant enters the boiler and is sent to the heat exchanger with the help of a circulation pump. If its temperature drops below that set in the settings, the device should work for heating. The burner is supplied with gas through the gas valve and ignited by the ignition electrodes.

    The three-way valve switches the operating mode to DHW or heating priority. The fan removes the products of combustion and ensures the supply of oxygen to the combustion chamber. The expansion tank is necessary so that the coolant enters it when its volume changes due to temperature changes.

    When the temperature of the coolant reaches the level set in the settings, the gas stops flowing into the burner and the fire goes out. Sometimes a room thermostat is installed in the system, and then the device will turn on when the room temperature drops.

    DHW operation

    Smoke extraction

    In a turbocharged column with a closed combustion chamber, two pipes are removed from above. The first of them is an air intake, through which oxygen enters the chamber. The second chimney, through which the products of combustion are released into the atmosphere. Air circulation is provided by a fan installed either at the very top or under the burner.

    In atmospheric models, only one chimney is installed. The air in the combustion chamber in such devices comes from the room in which it is located.

    Protection system

    All signals from the safety automation are transmitted to the electronic control board. It is forbidden to independently repair and make changes to the security system of the domestic boiler.

    Types of boilers and distinctive features

    Although both new and old boilers are almost the same, there are several fundamental differences depending on the purpose and type of model.

    Usually gas boilers are volatile, for example, Protherm "Cheetah", they need electricity to operate the circulation pump, ignition and fan. But there are also non-volatile models. Consider how such a device as Aton Compact works without electricity. It is mounted with an open heating circuit with natural circulation, and ignition in it is done manually. For such a device to work correctly, it is important to comply with all installation requirements.

    The devices differ in the material from which the primary heat exchanger is made. It can be steel, copper, cast iron, aluminum and stainless steel. Each of these materials has its advantages and disadvantages and is selected according to the specific requirements of the consumer. Thus, Conord devices of the KCHG series are equipped with cast-iron heat exchangers with a long service life.

    According to the installation method, boilers are wall-mounted, floor-mounted and parapet. A parapet apparatus, such as the P-series Vulkan, is always equipped with a closed-type combustion chamber. It must be installed on the outer wall of the room in order to bring the coaxial chimney through it. Wall-mounted devices are more compact, which is suitable for a small apartment, and floor devices with increased power.

    parapet boiler

    A number of models can only work with natural gas, like Keber boilers, and some boilers are also adapted for liquefied gas in cylinders. This is relevant if it is planned to heat the room in an area without a centralized gas pipeline.

    Single-circuit boilers are designed for heating only. Double-circuit devices are equipped with a bithermic or secondary plate heat exchanger. The second circuit is used to provide domestic hot water.

    Furnaces made of metal and brick - work without electricity and gas

    The most convenient type of fuel is natural gas. With it, you can heat any area of the house, public buildings and even huge production facilities. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of private home owners choose gas as their fuel. And what to do in cases where there is no way to connect it? Freeze in a country house? To use electric heaters, paying huge monthly sums for consumed kilowatts? Of course not! There are many options that make it possible to organize high-quality heating of a private house without the use of gas and electricity.

    Heating of a country dwelling can be done by:

    • heating stoves (stone, brick, metal) and fireplaces;
    • solid fuel units;
    • heat pumps;
    • natural renewable heat sources (windmills, solar panels).

    The easiest way is to build a classic brick oven in the house and use it for heating. Here it is important to correctly position such a structure in the home. Ideally, it should be in the center of the house so that its walls open into different rooms. You can heat the stove with coal or wood. The first option is more rational. Charcoal burns for a long time and releases a lot of heat. There will be more trouble with firewood. They will have to be harvested on their own or bought in large quantities, as the wood burns out very quickly.

    We note right away that an ordinary person is unlikely to be able to build a brick oven with his own hands. Its installation requires the creation of a foundation - a dirty, lengthy and laborious procedure. Yes, and it will not be easy for a home craftsman to make the correct brickwork. A reasonable alternative to classic heaters are ready-made stoves made of metal.

    In specialized stores, a chic assortment of cast-iron and steel potbelly stoves is presented. They are highly efficient and look great. Thanks to this, factory-made metal stoves allow not only to heat the house economically, but also to make the residential interior original. Both an ordinary stove and a ready-made potbelly stove are easy to equip with a coil. It will heat water that can be supplied to radiators installed in different rooms of the house. With this approach, we will get economical heating, powered by wood or coal.

    Fireplaces can also be used to heat homes. But only if the dwelling has a small area. Large house with many rooms and households. The fireplace will not be able to heat the rooms. In most cases, such heating structures play a decorative role.

    Features of non-volatile boilers

    Heating boilers are divided into two broad categories - volatile and non-volatile. The first has many advantages:

    • More accurate temperature control.
    • More service features.
    • Ability to work on the program.
    • High level of security.

    There are also disadvantages - they create additional costs for electricity, they have too fragile electronic filling, they do not work in the absence of electricity.

    It would seem that having a modern double-circuit boiler in the house is cool and convenient. But behind the convenience lies the need to have an auxiliary source of electricity. The role of such sources are generators and uninterruptible power supplies on batteries. In any case, the consumer will face additional costs for fuel and batteries.

    Non-volatile heating boilers are able to work without electricity. They use mechanical control systems that control the temperature of the coolant and the operation of all nodes. Their efficiency index may be lower than that of electronic models, but there are also quite energy-efficient samples (such distortions are observed in all lines of heating equipment).

    Advantages of non-volatile gas boilers:

    • No dependence on power sources - if the lights go out in the house, the heating will continue to work.
    • A simpler internal device - without flimsy electronics that are not resistant to power surges.
    • They can work both for heating and for hot water supply - double-circuit gas boilers are on sale.
    • The ability to work in homes without electrification - for example, in rural areas or in the outback.

    Many well-known brands are engaged in the release of non-volatile models - these are Protherm, Lemax, Baxi, MORA-TOP, Atem, Electrolux and many others. Both floor and wall models are on sale, including gas boilers with cast iron heat exchangers.

    Popular Models

    A gas boiler without electricity is a smart choice for those who do not want to mess with electronics. The formula “no light - no heating” is unacceptable for many consumers, so non-volatile heating equipment was developed for them. Consider the most popular and rating models.

    Heating options without the use of electricity and gas

    To list all the ways to heat a country house or cottage, we will assume that electricity is still supplied there. The supplier company has set a small power consumption limit (3-5 kW), which does not allow turning electricity into a heat source, but makes it possible to connect heating equipment. In a detailed study of each option, we will highlight those that do not require the use of the mains.

    Houses located on the outskirts are often not supplied with gas

    So, if there is no gas and electricity (sufficient power), then heating for the house can be arranged in the following ways:

    1. Install a stove or solid fuel boiler connected to a water heating system. Use wood, coal, fuel briquettes or pellets as an energy carrier.
    2. Arrange autonomous heating with liquefied propane from a ramp with cylinders or a gas tank. The source of heat will be a conventional gas boiler or convectors that heat the premises with warm air.
    3. Use diesel fuel and waste oil for heat generation by installing appropriate equipment.
    4. Draw energy from renewable natural sources, using solar collectors and a heat pump for alternative heating of a country house.

    Note. Unfortunately, almost all of these methods become useless when you need to decide how to heat an apartment. We will have to do without liquefied gas and firewood, and there can be no talk of liquid fuel. There is only one way out - economical heating with electricity using infrared heaters or an air-to-air heat pump (in the southern regions, an inverter air conditioner will do).

    Options for heating equipment for an apartment

    Let's single out heat sources that do not require connection to the house electrical network for operation:

    • wood stoves, metal and brick, fireplaces;
    • solid fuel boilers equipped with a mechanical draft regulator and working in conjunction with a gravitational (gravity-flowing) heating system;
    • non-volatile floor standing boilers capable of operating on liquefied gas and connected to a gravity water system with radiators.

    Other methods require electricity, albeit in small quantities. If you do not take into account various home-made devices, then for burning diesel fuel you need a burner with a pump and a fan powered by the mains. The same is the case with all heat pumps and TT boilers with forced air supply, including pellet boilers. Now let's take a closer look at ways to heat a country house or cottage, if there is no gas and the supply of electricity is limited.

    Combustion of solid fuel

    One of the most common methods to organize home heating without gas is the use of coal, firewood and briquettes pressed from various biomass wastes (sawdust, straw, sunflower husks, needles, and so on). To burn them and get the required amount of heat, various furnaces and boilers are used. The former are designed for direct heating of indoor air, the latter work with water systems - radiators or underfloor heating.

    The easiest option is to put a nice metal stove

    Amendment. In a room where a wood or coal stove is located, heat is distributed not only by convection from heating the air, but also by infrared radiation emitted by its heated walls.

    There are three types of heating stoves: steel, cast iron and brick. The positive nuances of their operation are as follows:

    1. It is cheaper and easier to arrange heating of the house with a steel or cast-iron stove. For its installation and launch, it is not necessary to invite masters, everything can be done by hand.
    2. A stationary brick oven is capable of heating several rooms, accumulating a large amount of heat in the thickness of the walls.
    3. Any of these heat sources can be adapted for cooking, drying clothes and shoes.
    4. The device of many stoves provides for a water circuit built into the furnace in the form of a tank or a coil connected to several radiators located in neighboring rooms. There is a point here: for the movement of the coolant, it is necessary to lay pipes of increased diameter with observance of the slope (gravity system) or install a circulation pump.
    5. Wood and coal are the cheapest fuels of all energy sources, so heating costs are affordable for most homeowners.
    6. Furnaces do not need electricity at all.
    Brick stove gives a pleasant healthy warmth, but it is not easy to build

    Note. A heat source such as a wood-burning fireplace cannot be ruled out. True, it is enough to heat only one room in which it is located.

    There were also negative points:

    • stove heating of a private house without gas is the chopping and carrying of firewood, their loading and daily cleaning of ash;
    • the heater requires a chimney with good natural draft;
    • metal stoves are unable to heat large country cottages, their power is only enough for a country house or 1-2 rooms;
    • the construction of a brick oven is not a cheap pleasure, and a place for it must be provided at the design and construction stage of the building.

    It should be borne in mind that a brick oven is being built on a foundation

    Heating a stone or wooden house through a water system with a solid fuel boiler is more economical, since the efficiency of these units is higher (75% versus a maximum of 60% for stoves). Due to this, the duration of burning from one bookmark of fuel is increased, plus the issue of complete heating of the building with spaced heating devices has been resolved. This gives rise to the possibility of heating large areas of the house in the absence of gas and regulating the intensity of heating of the premises.

    TT-boiler with mechanical draft regulator in operation

    Otherwise, TT-boilers inherit the features of the furnaces. They also need a chimney, periodic cleaning and loading of new portions of firewood and coal. If we compare the cost, then the installation of a solid fuel boiler along with the system takes a middle position between buying a metal stove and building a brick one.

    An important point. A water heating unit that runs on wood or briquettes can be installed in any habitable house. With a lack of space, an extension is made to the building, where heating equipment is installed.

    Separately, it is worth mentioning automatic pellet boilers, which greatly simplify the life of the homeowner, since they must be cleaned and fuel added once a week. Another thing is the price of equipment and fuel, and also the increased consumption of electricity. In addition to automation, the following electrical installations are involved in such heat generators:

    • feed screw motor;
    • fan electric motor - supercharger or smoke exhauster;
    • heating element used for automatic ignition of pellets.

    An automatic pellet or coal boiler is a great choice, but it also needs electricity

    The listed elements are installed in a pellet burner and consume a total of about 500 W from the mains, which is essential for a private house without gas and with a limited limit on the use of electricity. On the other hand, pellet boilers are more efficient and economical than conventional ones (efficiency - 80% versus 75%), and their operation is more comfortable and safe (automatics will not allow the unit to boil). The question lies in the financial capabilities of the homeowner and the amount of the allocated electric power limit.

    Heating with liquefied gas

    Let us make a reservation right away that in the absence of main gas and electricity, it is not profitable to use this fuel in all countries of the former USSR. If Russian prices for liquefied propane still allow them to heat houses, then in Ukraine this method is practically not used anywhere, because the fuel is too expensive. You can see the exact layout of the cost of heating with different energy carriers in this article.

    To work on propane, any gas heat generator is suitable, only the wall-mounted one will have to be connected to the mains

    To burn a propane-butane mixture, you will need a conventional gas boiler, preferably a non-volatile floor-standing one, so as not to connect electricity to it. Accordingly, the heating system is water gravitational with an open-type expansion tank. Gas is supplied to the boiler in two ways - from a ramp with cylinders or a large underground tank - a gas tank.

    When installing and operating the equipment, you will encounter the following points:

    1. Installing a gas train with cylinders (at least 4 pieces will be required) will be inexpensive, but the cash costs will have to be compensated by labor costs. With permanent residence, you suffer much more with the transportation and filling of cylinders than if you heat the house with wood.
    2. Installing a gas tank is a costly undertaking. But as a result, you will get autonomous heating without connecting to the gas main.
    3. Liquefied propane is no less efficient and comfortable energy source than natural gas, and provides the same benefits during equipment operation.

    Methods for supplying liquefied fuel to a heat generator

    Advice. It is better to organize heating with cylinders in a small country house, where you visit and live for 2-3 days. Our experienced expert Vladimir Sukhorukov will tell you more about all the nuances of using liquefied gas in his video:

    Diesel fuel - more cons than pros

    As a rule, the burning of diesel fuel and used engine oil is implemented in situations where there is nothing more to heat a private house with. Sometimes this option is used as a temporary one, while the built house is not yet connected to the natural gas main. In this case, you buy a universal gas boiler, temporarily equipped with a diesel burner.

    The unpopularity of liquid fuel as an energy carrier for heating private dwellings is explained by the following reasons:

    • economical heating of a house with diesel fuel is an unrealistic concept, since the price of fuel is quite high;
    • diesel burners cost decent money and do not function without electricity (we do not take into account all sorts of homemade home craftsmen);
    • liquid fuel is dirt and smell in the boiler room, no matter how hard you try to keep it clean;
    • due to the poor quality of the fuel, the equipment must be serviced frequently, and with the help of qualified personnel.

    Heating of a country cottage with a Buderus diesel boiler

    For reference. If you have a reliable supplier of used oil at a reasonable price, then you can try to make a Babbington burner yourself, saving on the purchase of equipment. Instructions for making - in a separate topic.

    So, diesel fuel is far from an economical option, but in some situations it can help out. It is better to organize such heating than to leave the house without heating.

    Alternative sources of thermal energy

    The first thing that comes to mind when there is neither gas nor electricity in a country cottage is to organize the generation of electricity in some way. For example, install solar panels and a wind farm that can provide all the needs of a private household and serve as a power source for any boiler. But you are unlikely to master such a project alone because of the decent cost of equipment and work on its installation. Unless you manage to connect a dozen more neighbors to the project.

    Generating free electricity using windmills and solar panels will require a significant investment

    A more realistic option for alternative heating is to use a heat pump. This brainchild of advanced technologies is widely used in Western Europe and the USA, but in the post-Soviet space it is not available to everyone. The reason is again the high price. The principle of operation of the pump is similar to air conditioning: heat energy is extracted in one place (from natural sources) and moved to another (inside a private house).

    There are 4 types of heat pumps, which we will indicate along with the cost of equipment:

    1. "Air is air". Acts exactly like a household split system that works for heating. The issue price is from 1800 USD. e., plus installation of at least 150 c.u. e.
    2. "Air - water". It differs from the previous version in that the thermal energy taken from the outside air is transferred to the water in the heating system. The cost of installation of medium quality - from 2000 USD. e., installations - about 1700 c.u. e.
    3. "Water is water". These units heat the coolant in the house due to the energy taken from groundwater or a nearby reservoir. More or less reliable equipment will cost you 3000-3300 USD. e., and the cost of installation depends on the number of wells, the remoteness of the reservoir and other factors.
    4. Geothermal installation "land - water". Here, the outer circuit of pipes delivers heat to the house from the depths of the earth, heating the coolant for heating. The most reliable and expensive system, the price starts from 8000 USD. e., installation - at least 2000 c.u. e.

    Pipe circuits (left) take away the thermal energy of the earth and water, and the installation (right) directs it to heat the house

    The trick is that these units still need electricity to move thermal energy. To get 3-4 kW of heat and send it to heating, you need to spend 1 kW of electricity. When the power limit is limited to 5 kW, then 3 of them can be used for heating, which will be 12 kW. This is enough for a living area of 120-160 m², no more.

    For reference. When purchasing and operating heat pumps at current prices, there is no question of any payback of equipment, the subsequent energy savings are taken into account. Our expert will give you more information in his video:

    Finally, let's say a few words about how to heat a private house with solar collectors. These are groups of glass tubes with a coolant flowing inside, which are heated by the infrared radiation of the sun. Unfortunately, such installations cannot act independently, and here's why:

    • at night there is no sun, and there is no heating of the coolant;
    • in winter, especially in the northern regions, there is too little solar energy;
    • to move the coolant, you will need a circulation pump powered by electricity.

    Scheme of connecting solar collectors to the heating system

    For these reasons, solar collectors are usually connected by pipes to special fittings of the buffer tank, where they give off the received heat. But the tank is also heated from other sources (boilers, stoves), so the outlet temperature is enough to heat the house.

    conclusions

    In the current conditions, the best way to fully heat a country house without gas and electricity is to burn solid fuel in boilers or stoves. The main role here is played by the combination of the cost of heating installations and the price of firewood, coal and other briquettes with pellets. Other options will cost more.

    An economically profitable energy source in our conditions is firewood

    Note that when choosing heat power equipment, a simple rule applies: the smaller the initial cash investment, the more troublesome its operation. Which of the homeowners wants to organize super - economical heating on the cheap, should invest more work and time. And vice versa, when buying and installing expensive heat pumps, the owner of the house has one concern - sometimes to monitor the temperature and control the operation of the units.

    How non-volatile gas-fired floor-standing boilers work

    The principle of operation of a non-volatile boiler has several distinctive features that affect fuel consumption, the accuracy of adjustment settings, etc. All units of boiler equipment operate in a completely independent of electricity mode:

    • Automation - adjustments are made by thermomechanical devices. A thermocouple is used to start and open the gas valve. When heated, a low-potential voltage of sufficient power is generated to hold the valve stem in the open position.
      The heating temperature is regulated by a thermomechanical valve. Inside the regulator is a thin metal rod. When heated, the core heats up, and the “needle” closes the gas nozzle.
    • Heating of the heat carrier - the transfer of heat from the combustion of gas to the liquid circulating in the heating system occurs through a heat exchanger. If the boiler is used for heating and hot water, there is a DHW coil in the device. A small diameter pipe surrounds the primary heat exchanger. Water heating is carried out in a flow way.
    • Security system - the design is equipped with all kinds of mechanical protection: gas pressure and exhaust smoke valves, various thermostatic controllers.
    • Burner device - in non-volatile boilers, an open-type burner is traditionally installed. In this regard, boiler equipment is called atmospheric, convection, etc.

    Types of floor non-volatile boilers

    According to their technical characteristics, non-volatile floor-type boilers are divided by power and the number of heat exchangers or circuits. There is a classification according to the main purpose, depending on performance:

    1. Up to 30 kW - household boilers.
    2. Up to 100 kW - semi-industrial units.
    3. Over 100 kW - industrial type boiler equipment.

    Another difference between heat generators is the type of heat exchanger, more precisely, the material from which it is made. Pig-iron coppers, differ in reliability, the long term of operation, the big weight. Steel analogues cost 1.5-2 times cheaper, but have worse thermal characteristics.

    Double-circuit non-volatile

    The floor double-circuit non-volatile gas copper, is intended for heating and hot water supply. The primary heat exchanger is made of structural or stainless steel. The coil is traditionally made of copper. The latest generation of non-volatile boilers, as a secondary heat exchanger, began to use an aluminum alloy tube.

    Household non-volatile floor double-circuit gas heating boilers simultaneously heat water and coolant. When DHW is heated, the temperature in the heating system decreases. To avoid this situation, some models have a built-in buffer tank.

    Heated water for domestic purposes is stored in a reservoir, like in a thermos. After opening the tap, hot water is supplied to the consumer, almost instantly. At the same time, there is no need for the boiler to work for heating.

    Single-circuit non-volatile

    The floor-standing non-volatile single-circuit gas heating boiler, unlike analogues with two heat exchangers, is intended exclusively for heating residential premises. This type of heating equipment is characterized by maximum performance. If over time there is a need for hot water, an indirect heating boiler is connected to the heating system.

    Underfloor heating single-circuit gas-fired boilers, independent of electricity, are often used to heat residential and industrial facilities. The advantage of the design is greater reliability (compared to double-circuit models), due to the absence of a DHW coil. As practice shows, due to hard water, quickly failing and requiring replacement.

    How to choose a non-volatile gas boiler

    After determining which boiler is better, single or double-circuit, you will need to choose a manufacturer of heating equipment. The reliability rating is headed by German technology, but its popularity is reduced by its prohibitively high cost.

    Some consumers pay attention to the Italian Baxi SLIM and others. But the leadership in popularity among domestic consumers is occupied by models of boiler equipment manufactured in the Russian Federation.

    It is difficult to list all models of boilers. But, the most popular (as sales statistics show) are the following nine types of heating equipment: Rostovgazoapparat AOGV, Mimax KSG, Siberia KCHGO, Protherm Volk, Borinsky AOGV, Termotechnik AOGV and AKGV, Lemax Premium, ROSS AOGV.

    Special attention deserves products manufactured in the near abroad - Ukraine. Atem Zhytomyr is in demand.

    Advantages and disadvantages of a non-volatile gas boiler

    Of course, like any other heating equipment, non-volatile models have their pros and cons. Given the pros and cons, you can minimize errors when choosing a suitable boiler.

    When identifying weaknesses, it is better to focus not only on the characteristics of the manufacturer, but also on real reviews of non-volatile heating boilers.

    Positive sides:

    • Stable operation regardless of external factors.
    • Simple installation requirements.
    • Long service life.
    • Automation does not fail and costs less than a microprocessor controller (installed in volatile equipment).

    The disadvantages of boilers are also present:

    • Higher gas consumption - the intensity of heating is controlled by measuring the temperature of the coolant. The thermostatic valve has a large error.
    • The boiler is not designed to work in conditions of low gas pressure. Although there are "Kulibins" who offer to reconfigure automation, in practice this is associated with a significant risk.
    • Installation of a non-volatile boiler, without re-equipment (installation of a pump), is possible only in open systems with natural circulation of the coolant.

    A non-volatile boiler is the best option for heating rooms with a large area, especially in areas where there are problems with power supply. The equipment is easy to operate, it is cheaper, repairs, adjustments are practically not required. Often, this type of equipment is used for heating country houses, country houses.

    autonomnoeteplo.ru

    A non-volatile gas boiler is recommended for areas with unstable power supply. Modern equipment connected to the power grid often breaks down and fails due to power surges in the network. This can become a serious problem in winter. So that the heat in the house does not depend on the vagaries of the power grid, consumers choose heating devices that work without electricity.

    What are non-volatile boilers?

    Combined non-volatile boilers operating on two types of fuel are available only in the floor version. Gas heaters powered by gas are available in two versions:

    • Floor. This option is more popular than the wall option. Boilers that work without electricity are preferred by the owners of private houses. The floor-standing type of equipment has a simple device and is available in a wide range of capacities. There are heaters that can heat more than 200 m². They are installed in a special room with good forced ventilation.
    • Wall. These models are chosen by consumers who cannot allocate space for a furnace. Manufacturers not so long ago began to offer the market wall-mounted non-volatile devices. They are good for their compactness, are equipped with coaxial chimneys and are in no way inferior in performance to their floor counterparts. The wall option is usually chosen for a small area.

    What are the features?

    Previously, if the gas heater was not connected to the mains, it lost its functionality and safety. Much has changed today. Modern boilers that do not depend on electricity networks have an additional device that generates electricity - it works from the heat released during the combustion of fuel. The resulting energy feeds complex automatic systems that ensure the stability and safety of work.

    In non-volatile systems, there is no forced circulation of the coolant. The latter circulates under the influence of natural forces, it moves according to physical laws. If there are problems with electricity, circulation pumps cannot be used - the stability of the heater depends on the constancy of the coolant pressure. They produce two types of devices that work without electricity:

    • single-circuit - they are bought to organize heating for a house or apartment;
    • double-circuit - for heating, in parallel they provide the house with hot water.

    Manufacturers also offer parapet models. A parapet boiler is a low-power apparatus. It has a closed combustion chamber. Suitable for small spaces. It can be with volatile or non-volatile automation.

    Principle of operation

    The autonomous heater has an igniter and a main burner. The igniter is pre-ignited, then the main burner ignites, which heats the coolant to a temperature set by the user. Having reached the set value, the device stops the fuel supply. As soon as the temperature drops to a critical value, the gas supply begins, which ignites from a burning igniter. In the absence of traction, the fuel supply is automatically cut off. The electrically independent heater system has an expansion tank, which is necessary for the liquid expanding due to heating. Ignition is carried out using a piezoelectric element, which is triggered by pressing a button.

    Advantages

    • The ability to work without electricity is their main plus. There is no need to do wiring, install a socket, this saves money.
    • Simple design and safe use.
    • Versatility - suitable for heating houses and apartments of different sizes.
    • Silent operation - no pumps making noise.
    • High efficiency.
    • Durable heat exchangers.

    Flaws

    • It is not possible to achieve full circulation in the system. There can be many reasons, for example, the calculation of the thickness of the pipes. In such a system, it is extremely important to correctly calculate the diameter of the pipes and install them at a special angle. As a result, uneven heating of the room is possible.
    • For correct operation, a chimney with strong draft is required. Lack of draft will cause the equipment to stop, the reverse draft valve will operate. The chimney must create a vacuum in the furnace from 16 to 20 Pa.
    • Efficiency at the level of 90%, the average volatile boiler has an efficiency of about 93%.
    • The temperature is controlled manually.

    How to choose?

    It is not so easy to choose a non-volatile boiler of foreign or Russian production on the market - there are too many brands, models, and design options. Imported ones are considered more economical, domestic ones are more affordable and better adapted to operating conditions. When choosing a model, it is necessary to take into account the pressure in the gas pipeline, at what minimum pressure a particular model is able to function. Next, the power is determined - 1000 W per 10 m².

    When choosing a model, it is important to pay attention to the material of the heat exchanger. There are copper, steel, cast iron. Preferably - cast iron, it is stronger than steel and it has a longer service life. Cast iron heat exchangers can last up to 30 years. The walls of cast iron elements are thicker than those of steel counterparts, and they are more resistant to corrosion. Another criterion worth paying attention to is that a device that does not depend on electricity cannot be with a closed combustion chamber. Turbocharged models do not work without electricity, as they need forced circulation of the coolant, air injection and exhaust gas removal.

    Non-volatile or volatile - which is better?

    In volatile models, unlike their non-volatile competitors, there are:

    1. Circulation pump to ensure the movement of the coolant. This eliminates air congestion and uneven heating of the premises.
    2. Fan for forcing outdoor air into the chamber of turbocharged boilers.
    3. More advanced automation that selects the most economical modes for the device. It is possible to program the operation taking into account the time of day and days of the week. The operation of the boiler is controlled by internal thermostats located in the rooms.

    Thanks to circulation and forced draft, less stringent requirements apply to energy-dependent versions:

    • there are no strict requirements for room ventilation;
    • you can use a closed expansion tank, placement is free;
    • do not need to comply with slopes;
    • It is allowed to use pipes of small diameter.

    Can a volatile heater work without electricity? No, during a power outage, the device does not work, and the house remains without heat. This is the only downside. There is a solution, but it requires additional costs - connecting a generator. It turns out that volatile models are more perfect and convenient to use, and if there is a reliable power supply, then the choice would be unambiguous. Non-volatile analogues are indispensable in situations where uninterrupted and high-quality power supply cannot be provided.

    Manufacturer's choice

    Having decided on the type of boiler - single or double-circuit, wall-mounted or floor-standing, it remains to choose a brand. The reliability rating is predictably headed by German manufacturers, whose products have only one drawback - too high prices. That is why consumers often pay attention to cheaper Italian brands - and others. But the most popular, according to sales statistics, are domestic devices on the market - Rostovgazoapparat, Mimax KSG, Siberia KCHGO, Volk, Borinsky AOGV, AOGV and AKGV, Premium, ROSS AOGV. Also, products manufactured by Ukrainian factories have proven themselves well; Atem Zhytomyr is especially popular in Russia.

    Mounting Features

    Gas heaters that do not consume electricity operate in conventional gravity heating systems, which have a lot of disadvantages. The main ones are insufficient temperature stability in the premises and high fuel consumption. That's the price for offline work. Since there is no forced circulation, such boilers are located at the lowest points of heated buildings so that water flows to the place of heating.

    The heating circuit, independent of electricity, has a special wiring. The pipes must be of a larger diameter than in the case of circulation pumps. The location of the pipes - with a slope. It is necessary to strive for the optimal number of branches and turns so that the coolant pressure does not decrease below normal. An expansion tank is required: its absence can provoke a pipe rupture.

    - this is a way out for residents of those areas where the power supply is unstable. Unfortunately and to date there are such "bearish corners" where electricity is cut off very often. This is especially unpleasant in the cold season in homes where heating is tied to electricity.

    Approximate size of non-volatile gas heating boilers

    There is also such a problem as a mismatch between the voltage in a given area or a particular house with the required one. Sometimes such interruptions can last up to one week or even more. Under such conditions, it becomes necessary to abandon the heating systems, which require electricity, and switch to the use of non-volatile boilers.

    Having foreseen all the pros and cons, you can choose one of the appliances that run on other fuels, such as coal, wood, peat, etc. Well, and if there is gas supply to the house, then there will be no problems with heating the house. There are many models of boilers on sale that can operate not only on gas, but also on solid fuels - they are called combined.

    Combined heaters have one design - this is a floor version. They can be single-circuit and double-circuit. The former are intended only for heating, the latter will cope with both heating and water heating for the needs of residents.

    Floor scheme - boiler Lamborghini WBL 5

    Combined options are heavy, as some of their elements are made of heavy alloys of cast iron or steel. In this regard, they are not available in a hanging version.

    Another option for heating devices are boilers that operate only on gaseous fuels. They can be performed both in suspended and floor versions, and also have a single-circuit and double-circuit scheme.

    Video - the principle of operation of the burner of a gas non-volatile boiler

    How to approach the problem of choice?

    An important note - such boilers should “be able” to work in heating systems with both forced and natural movement of the coolant, which is used as water (preferably purified), or antifreeze - coolant for domestic needs.

    • Natural circulation is the movement of the coolant along the circuit under the influence of gravitational forces arising from heating the water and replacing it with cold water, due to the difference in density and the correctly planned slope of the pipes of the heating system.
    • The forced movement of the coolant occurs with the help of a pump installed in the system, which creates more intense pressure in the circuit. Under such conditions, the system warms up faster, thereby saving gas. But such heating is possible only with the constant availability of electricity.

    What is the conclusion - when purchasing a boiler in an area with an unstable supply of electricity, you need to choose a unit that will be effective with natural circulation.

    • When choosing a gas appliance, it is necessary to take into account the pressure with which gas is supplied in Russian gas pipelines. Usually it is 1.270 MPa. The passport attached to the heating device must indicate the permissible gas pressure for this particular unit.
    • If the boiler was purchased earlier and is designed only for heating with solid fuel, then in some models it is possible to replace the igniter and install a burner to convert it to gas.
    • Non-volatile heating devices are reliable, simple and easy to manage. Subject to all safety measures during installation and operation, gas boilers are quite safe. In addition, they are equipped with automation, which is triggered when the gas supply is completed or the flame disappears, completely turning off the entire device.
    • There is a wide range of models of domestic and foreign production on the market. The latter are considered more economical, since they have automatic devices that can control the intensity of combustion. Domestic devices are no less reliable, but also more affordable, and they are also better adapted to local conditions and parameters.
    • The boiler must be equipped with a thermostat, with which you can adjust the heating temperature of the coolant. When it cools below the set temperature, the boiler automatically turns on the heating.
    • In some areas, with the onset of winter and a decrease in air temperature, the pressure in the gas supply system also decreases. This nuance must also be taken into account when choosing a model for heating a house, and buying the option that will work smoothly both at normal and at reduced pressure. Subject to these conditions, the boiler will operate smoothly at any time of the year, but, knowing the peculiarities of the local gas supply system, it is necessary to control the operation of the boiler from time to time in winter in order to prevent the heating system from freezing.

    Unit installation

    The installation of non-volatile heating units is carried out according to a specially drawn up plan, which is agreed with the controlling fire and gas supply organizations. It is very important to create the necessary conditions for the normal functioning of the device:

    • maintain a positive temperature in the boiler room;
    • observe fire safety regulations during installation. Combustible wall material must be insulated non-flammable materials, such as asbestos or metal sheets;
    • if the boiler is installed independently, it is necessary to start it for the first time in the presence of a specialist who will check the correct installation and operation of the device .

    V project plan installation of the boiler also includes a chimney system. It must comply with the established standards, which are developed by design organizations, depending on the power of the heater. The chimney must be individual for each heating device or have a section that allows you to remove the required amount from two or three devices.

    According to the standards, the chimney, which is brought out through the roof and located one and a half meters from the ridge horizontally, must rise in height by at least half a meter. If it is removed through the roof at a distance of one and a half to three meters horizontally, it is raised at least to the height of the ridge.

    When building a chimney, you also need to know that it should not have more than three turns, but it is better if it is perfectly straight. But, in any case, its total height in a straight line should not be less than five meters. From above, the chimney is covered with a special fungus made of metal; it will close the pipe opening from moisture and dirt.

    Another version of the chimney is coaxial, it is not suitable for all types of heating boilers and a specialist recommendation is needed to install it.

    Such a chimney duct does not require a large height and is arranged in the wall. Its installation will cost much less and will not be difficult. But it should be noted that, without forced electrical air circulation, it may not create the necessary traction, so the boiler will spontaneously turn off more often than with a traditional pipe. Another disadvantage is the formation of condensate inside the coaxial chimney.

    Boiler models

    For example, it is worth considering several models of boilers that are popular due to their functionality and convenience.

    Gas boiler Viadrus G36 (BM)

    This model is available in various capacities. To determine which one is suitable for a particular heating system, you need to familiarize yourself with the technical characteristics.

    Model

    Power min/max kW Fuel consumption min/max. cubic meters/h Coolant volume Boiler size (width, depth, height) mm Boiler weight kg

    Chimney diameter mm

    12/17 1,39/ 1,98 9,2 485/ 733/ 935 100 110
    18/26 2,07/ 2,95 11,4 485/ 733/ 935 130
    27/34 3,14/ 3,92 13,6 570/ 733/ 935
    41/35 4,04/ 4,73 15,8 740/ 773/ 935
    G364942/49 4,84/ 5,61 18,0 740/ 773/ 935 201
    • Viadrus G36 is exactly the boiler that does not depend on the supply of electricity to the building. It has an atmospheric steel burner.
    • For the smooth functioning of the gas valve, a thermoelement is built into the boiler, and it is able to create the right amount of electricity. Also, the device has a sensor that protects against traction overturning.
    • This type of boiler is adapted to local conditions and works great, heating the coolant from 45 degrees and above.
    • If it is necessary to connect a pump to this model of boilers to increase the pressure of the coolant, but you are afraid of interruptions in the power supply, you can have additional uninterruptible power supplies at home.
    • For Viadrus G36 boilers, a coaxial chimney is well suited if it is not possible to arrange a traditional one for gas boilers.
    • The positive quality of this unit can be considered the possibility of connecting an indirect heating boiler to it.
    • When choosing a boiler, you need to stop at an option whose power is 15 percent more than required.

    Gas boiler Protherm Bear TLO

    Another proposed option for non-volatile boilers is Protherm Bear TLO. Its characteristics also deserve attention.

    Model

    Bear 40 TLO35 4,0 85 18,0 590/ 671/ 880 140

    The following qualities can also be attributed to the positive characteristics of these boilers:

    • work in systems with open movement of the coolant;
    • have piezo ignition;
    • open combustion chamber;
    • the heat exchanger is made of cast iron;
    • The efficiency is 87-92%;
    • burner made of stainless steel;
    • power is regulated in one step;
    • has a winter-summer regime;
    • automatic control carried out by a microprocessor;
    • chimney draft is controlled;
    • a heat exchanger made of cast iron is protected from condensation;
    • overheating protection;
    • flame intensity control;
    • constant control of temperature and pressure of the heat carrier;
    • operates on liquefied or main gas;
    • the cooling circuit does not allow the coolant to heat up above 100-110 degrees.

    Thanks to all these qualities, the operation of the boiler is not difficult even for a beginner. A sufficiently compact size with high work efficiency, as well as a neat design are also important, especially if the boiler is installed in the kitchen or bathroom.

    Non-volatile floor gas boilers are heating equipment that can operate without being connected to a power source. They do not need an electrical network, which makes it possible to operate in buildings without electrification. They are also suitable for heating households in rural areas, where power outages are frequent due to the deterioration of electrical networks.

    Advantages and features of non-volatile boilers:

    • Provide heat in the complete absence of electricity;
    • Simple design without unnecessary electronics;
    • Fully automatic operation;
    • No extra electricity costs.

    Non-volatile boilers are used in many Russian households. They are characterized by stable operation and do not require unnecessarily frequent maintenance. To ignite the gas, they use pilot burners, ignited using a piezo ignition system. Boilers automatically maintain a certain temperature of the coolant, creating a comfortable atmosphere.

    Non-volatile boilers are divided into single-circuit and double-circuit. Single-circuit models are simple, they are designed only for space heating. Their dual-circuit counterparts are equipped with additional heat exchangers for the preparation of hot water. Thanks to this, consumers get rid of the need to buy water heaters. There is also a division into models with open and closed combustion chambers - the latter require coaxial chimneys that provide air intake and removal of combustion products at the same time. Models with open chambers are connected to traditional chimneys and require the flow of fresh air into the room.

    Floor-standing non-volatile gas boilers are commercially available in a variety of models from Russian and foreign manufacturers. When choosing heating equipment, be guided by the number of circuits, thermal power and performance of the DHW circuit (if any), as well as the type of heat exchanger (steel or cast iron). Non-volatile gas boilers are a reliable and elegant solution for those who want to decouple heating from the mains and ensure its stability. Many models of these boilers can run on liquefied gas, which allows you to heat buildings built far from electrical networks and gas mains.

    You can buy a floor gas non-volatile boiler in the Teplodvor online store. For the services of customers, we have prepared a large catalog, which presents heating equipment from well-known brands. Delivery services are provided - in Moscow, the Moscow region and throughout Russia.
