Specialization: facade finishing, interior finishing, construction of dachas, garages. The experience of an amateur gardener and horticulturist. He also has experience repairing cars and motorcycles. Hobbies: playing the guitar and much more, for which there is not enough time :)

Interior wall decoration is an operation that every home master has to face in the process of repairing a home. Currently, there are many finishing technologies and a rich selection of materials for these purposes, which often confuses people when choosing. To help understand this issue, then I will try to tell you in detail about the most common modern materials and interior decoration technologies.

First of all, I note that the interior decoration is of two types:

  1. draft - provides preparation of walls for fine finishing. As a rule, preparation consists in leveling the surface and removing all kinds of defects;
  2. fine - performs a decorative function.

Rough wall finish

Rough wall decoration can be done in two ways:

  • by plastering;
  • wall sheet materials.

Each type of finish has its pros and cons, which we will discuss below.

Plaster

Plastering is a time-tested way of rough finishing, which is still relevant in our time. Among its advantages are the following points:

  • high strength, due to which heavy finishing materials can be mounted on top of the plaster, as well as furniture can be attached to the walls;
  • low cost - the price of a bag of cement plaster weighing 25 kg starts from 150 rubles;
  • wear resistance;
  • the ability to use any finishing materials;
  • resistance to moisture and temperature changes. Therefore, plaster is an excellent solution for use in the bathroom.

However, plaster also has some disadvantages:

    • fragility;
  • The process of plastering walls is very time consuming. If you turn to specialists for help, the price of finishing increases dramatically;
  • layer thickness should not exceed 50-70 mm.

For these reasons, recently they try to apply plaster only where it is really needed. In other cases, a more modern finishing material, such as drywall, is used.

As for the installation technology, it includes several stages:

Wall preparation consists in removing the old finish coating, cleaning the walls from dirt and priming. After completing these procedures, work is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. if the thickness of the plaster layer is several centimeters, a metal mesh is attached to the wall. To fix it, you can use self-tapping screws with wide washers or even dowel-nails;

  1. then the guides are mounted. This is the most difficult stage, on which the quality of the finish depends..
    As beacons, a special beacon profile is used, which is fixed on the wall using lumps of plaster mortar or special fasteners. The main difficulty in installing guides is that they must be located strictly vertically and in the same plane. Therefore, first, the beacons extreme from the walls are installed according to the level, after which threads are pulled between them, allowing you to set intermediate guides in the same plane.

The distance from the corner to the lighthouse should be 20-30 cm, while the step of the guides should be less than the length of the rule. As a rule, it is 1.5-2m;

  1. then spraying is performed - a plaster mortar of a creamy consistency is thrown onto the walls manually or mechanically. The thickness of the spray should not exceed one centimeter;

  1. after the spray has set, the main layers are applied with a thicker solution. The thickness of each layer should not exceed 5-7 mm. In the process of applying plaster, the surface of the walls is leveled with your own hands using a rule that stretches along the beacons from the bottom up;
  2. in the process of applying the base layer to the outer corners, metal corners are glued to protect the corners from chipping. Internal corners are formed using an angular spatula;
  3. the final layer is a coating - this is a liquid layer of plaster, the thickness of which does not exceed 2 mm;

  1. after setting the top layer of plaster, the beacons are removed, and the traces of them are filled with mortar. At the same time, grouting is performed - the surface is leveled with a smooth grater, as in the photo above. To do this, the tool produces circular movements.

This completes the process of plastering the walls.

Wall cladding with sheet materials

This method of rough finishing has several advantages over plaster:

  • simplicity and high speed of installation;
  • lack of dirty work;
  • there is no restriction on , i.e. even the most crooked walls can be leveled;
  • it is possible to insulate the walls by placing a heater under the skin;
  • the ability to give the walls a complex shape, for example, to make niches, arches, etc.

The disadvantage of this finish is the low strength. True, this does not apply to all materials. For example, OSB boards are very durable coatings.

The cost of these coatings depends on their type:

  1. first of all, the ceiling and floor are marked for mounting the rails, which should be located at the same vertical level;

  1. further along the markings, the guide profiles themselves are attached to the ceiling and floor;
  2. then brackets for PP profiles are attached to the wall, taking into account that the step between them should be 50 cm;
  3. after that, PP profiles are inserted into the guides, which are then fixed with self-tapping screws in the brackets;

  1. to increase the strength of the frame, crossbars should be staggered;
  2. then drywall sheets are attached to the frame using self-tapping screws;
  3. further, a chamfer of 5 mm is cut off from the joints of the sheets, after which a sickle mesh is glued on them;

  1. after that, the surface of the walls is primed with two layers of acrylic primer using a paint roller;
  2. then the joints of the sheets and the caps of the self-tapping screws are puttied;
  3. after the composition has dried, the starting putty is applied to the entire surface of the walls;
  4. hardened putty is ground with a coarse mesh or sandpaper;
  5. after finishing the grinding, the walls should be wiped and primed again;
  6. then the starting layer of putty is applied and carefully polished with a fine mesh.

If the walls of the house are even, drywall installation can be done without a frame. In this case, the sheets are glued with a starting putty.

After completing all these steps, the walls are ready.

Wall finishing

Upon completion of the rough finish, you can proceed to the finish. There are just a huge number of options for decorating walls. Therefore, we will not consider traditional coatings, such as wallpaper or tiles, but will only touch on the most modern and popular materials.

So, in my opinion, the following coverages deserve special attention:

All these finishing decorative materials have different performance properties, which I will discuss below.

Decorative rock

Decorative stone is called tiles made of natural stone or other materials, for example, gypsum or plastic. It should be noted that the artificial stone outwardly is practically indistinguishable from natural.

In the interior, such material looks very impressive and modern. And it can be used for a variety of styles.

True, decorative stone is rarely used as the main material. Usually it is combined with other coatings - wallpaper, plaster, etc., while separate areas of the room are finished with stone, corners, doorways, etc. are highlighted.

Among its advantages, in addition to its attractive appearance, the following points can be distinguished:

  • high strength;
  • practicality - the stone withstands high humidity (with the exception of gypsum), it is easy to clean. Therefore, it can be used as an apron in the kitchen;
  • easy to install - ordinary tile adhesive is used for stone wall cladding. Moreover, during the installation process, it is not necessary to ensure the uniformity of the seams and set the tiles according to the level. Therefore, even a beginner can cope with this task.

As for the cost of decorative stone, this material cannot be called budgetary:

Clinker tiles

Another modern material that has recently enjoyed great popularity is clinker tiles. Let me remind you that clinker is a ceramic material that is made from shale clay using a special technology.

As for decorative qualities, this material is a tile made in the form of a brick. Thus, it allows you to imitate brickwork in the interior.

Among the advantages of clinker tiles are:

  • attractive appearance;
  • resistance to moisture, detergents and other negative influences. Therefore, clinker tiles are also great for finishing an apron;
  • durability - the material is able to maintain its original appearance for decades.

As for installation, this process looks the same as laying ordinary tiles. Therefore, in order to do a good job, you need to have some skills.

Clinker tiles exist not only for walls, but also for floors. Moreover, on sale you can find sets even for finishing stairs.

It should be noted that clinker is also a rather expensive material:

Decorative plaster

Until recently, decorative plaster was perceived exclusively as a facade material. However, in our time there is a fashion for its use in the interior.

I must say that decorative plaster is not only the “bark beetle” familiar to everyone, as many people think. In fact, this concept includes wall coverings of different appearance.

The most common among them are the following:

  • marble chips - as you might guess, the decorative coating in this case is formed by marble chips glued together with a binder;
  • Venetian plaster - is a glossy coating that looks like a marble coating. It should be noted that the application of Venetian plaster is a complex and expensive procedure;
  • textured plaster - is an elastic coating that can be given any texture, for example, with a special textured roller.

Like any other materials for wall decoration inside the house, plaster has some advantages:

  • easy and quick to apply;
  • it is possible to cover surfaces of even the most complex shape;
  • suitable for interiors of any style;
  • the coating is able to hide small irregularities of the finished surface;
  • can be used in any room, as the coating is resistant to moisture and temperature extremes.

As for the application of decorative plaster, the instruction, most often, is as follows:

  1. before applying the composition, the prepared surface of the walls must be covered with two layers of primer;
  2. if the plaster is purchased in the form of a dry mix, it must be diluted in water, according to the instructions on the package;
  3. then the coating is applied to the surface of the walls with a thin layer using a spatula or bevel;
  4. if the plaster is textured, after its application, the texture is immediately formed with a roller or other devices. Such compounds as "bark beetle" after setting are rubbed with a small one;
  5. at the end of the work, painting of the plaster may be required. To do this, you can use any interior water-dispersion paint.

The price of plasters depends on the composition of the mixture and the manufacturer:

Liquid wallpaper

Considering modern wall finishing materials for interior work, one cannot fail to mention liquid wallpaper. I must say right away that the name "wallpaper" in this case is very conditional, since this material is applied in liquid form, respectively, it is much more like decorative plaster.

The composition of liquid wallpaper can be very different. As a rule, it contains:

  • cotton and silk fibers;
  • cellulose;
  • acrylic dispersion, which serves as a binder;
  • dyes;
  • all kinds of plasticizers

Due to the presence of silk and other fibers, this coating, after drying, vaguely resembles fabric wallpaper. Hence the name.

As for the advantages, they are the same as for decorative plaster. The only thing to note is that liquid wallpapers are susceptible to moisture, but they can be reused. In this case, they are soaked and carefully removed from the walls.

To make liquid wallpaper moisture resistant, they need to be varnished. In this case, their reuse, of course, is excluded.

The disadvantage of this material is the high cost:

Brand Price
Silk Plaster From 130 rub. 1m2
Bayramix Koza From 1000 rub. kg
Bioplast 250-350 rub. 1m2
silkcoat 1100 rub. 1 kg

Water-dispersion paints

Modern finishing of the interior walls of the house can be done with water-dispersion paint. Of course, the idea of painting walls is far from new. Even in Soviet times, the walls of the kitchen and bathroom were often painted, however, the result of such a finish left much to be desired.

Modern water-based coatings are a qualitatively different level. Among their advantages are the following points:

  • form an attractive matte, sometimes even silky film on the surface;
  • dry within a few hours;
  • have no smell;
  • there are moisture-resistant water-dispersion paints;
  • tinted, so you can get any desired shade and not waste time looking for the right paint;
  • durability is much higher than that of oil paints, which were used in Soviet times. In addition, water-dispersion coatings do not fade in the sun;
  • the painted surface can be repainted without removing the old coating layer.

The disadvantage of this solution is the need for careful preparation of the base. The fact is that even the smallest flaws on the wall become more noticeable after painting.

As for the cost, water-based paints are both cheap and very expensive:

Brand Price
LAKRA 600 rub. 14kg
Dulux Easy BW 1250 rub. 2.5kg
Tikkurila euro power 7 1000 rubles 1.7kg
Tex 880 rub. 14kg

Plastic panels

Wall decoration inside a private house or apartment can be made with plastic panels. This is a practical moisture-resistant material, which is usually used for corridors, kitchens and bathrooms.

I must say that modern plastic panels can imitate different materials, such as:

  • tree;
  • tile;
  • marble, etc.

Thanks to this, they are suitable for almost any interior. In addition, the panels have some other advantages:

  • do not require a rough finish of the walls;
  • easy to install;
  • easy to clean
  • are budget material, while they have an attractive appearance. The price starts from 50 rubles for a panel measuring 3000x100 mm.

For mounting panels without a rough finish, it is necessary to make a frame. It can be made in the same way as a drywall frame. The only thing to keep in mind is that the profiles must be placed across the panels.

Often the frame is made of wooden slats. However, this does not change the principle of its structure.

As an example, consider the vertical installation of panels:

  1. U-shaped guides should be installed on the ceiling and floor. Special corner profiles are installed in the corners. Profiles are fixed with self-tapping screws.
    Keep in mind that all guides must be level;
  2. the first panel is inserted into the horizontal guides and wound into the corner profile;
  3. from the side of the groove, the panel is fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws;
  4. then a second panel is inserted, which is connected to the first, and is fastened to the frame with self-tapping screws in the same way. According to this principle, the entire wall is sheathed;
  5. the penultimate panel is cut lengthwise from the side of the groove, after which it is connected to the penultimate panel. To tuck it into the corner profile, the outer rim needs to be slightly bent.

If the walls are even, you can install the panels on mounting strips and clamps. Mounting strips are attached directly to the wall with self-tapping screws or dowel-nails. Kleimers are clips that are inserted into the mounting strips and fix the panels, as shown in the diagram below.

Here, perhaps, are all the modern finishing materials for interior walls that I wanted to tell you about. Of course, there are a huge number of other coatings, but it is the products described above that are most popular.

Conclusion

All of the above materials and technologies for interior wall decoration have their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, each homeowner must decide for himself "which way to go." In this case, of course, it is necessary to take into account the future design of the premises and financial possibilities, since the cost of these materials is also different.

Paste the walls with wallpaper or paint in a single color - finishing solutions that have already become traditional. But what if these options seem boring and outdated? We offer an impressive way of decorating walls that have not yet had time to get bored.

1. From the ceiling to the wall

Intricate stucco is rarely able to fit into a modern interior. But ceiling rosettes, fixed on the walls and painted in their color, look very relevant. A wall with such a finish becomes a real highlight of the interior.

2. In eco style

Wall decoration with cork is not yet very common. Most likely, this is due to the widespread opinion that cork is an impractical material. But that's not the case at all. Modern cork panels are resistant to negative external factors, such as moisture, mechanical damage.

3. Fresh press

Paper on the walls in the form of wallpaper is a common solution, so the idea of decorating with newspapers will not be shocking. But keep in mind that newsprint is thinner, so after drying, we recommend covering the wall with a protective varnish.

4. Some brick

A wall completely lined with bricks is found in modern interiors quite often and has already managed to get a little bored. We offer an alternative solution - lay out only part of the wall with bricks. This finish is harmoniously combined with snow-white plaster, creating an interesting game of contrasts.

5. Relive vacation memories

River or sea pebbles are a reliable and durable material for wall decoration, which is easy to work with. With the help of small pebbles, you can lay out both the whole wall and its separate section, for example, the area of the kitchen apron.

6. Cheap and cheerful

If decorating the walls with natural wood will be a serious blow to the family budget, then we recommend that you pay attention to other options. For example, finishing the walls with OSB boards. But be careful: to make the interior look creative, you will have to carefully consider all its details. Otherwise, there is a great risk of overstepping the boundaries of good taste.

7. Soft eco-leather walls

Eco-leather wall panels look truly luxurious. But in order for the interior not to look too pretentious, we recommend paying attention to non-standard colors. Eco-leather panels in laconic interiors will look modern.

8. Stretch ... walls

The practice of finishing with stretch walls is not yet very common. They are a canvas attached to a frame. The advantages of such a finish are high installation speed, the ability to apply any image in decent quality.

9. Brutal decoration with large stones

Large stones in wall decoration are rare, although they look more impressive than small ones. In order for such a finish to really decorate the interior, we recommend laying out the entire wall with them, leaving free space between adjacent stones.

10. Exquisite luster of glass

Glass panels can have a variety of colors and textures. Therefore, it is not difficult to choose a model that harmoniously fits into the interior. It is not uncommon for glass panels to be mounted on top of a wall with a different finish, such as brick or stone. This allows you to create an impressive 3D effect in the interior.

11. Soft inner light

This type of finish is difficult to implement from the technical side. But the result is really worth the effort. Light sources, such as LED strip, are attached to the wall. Then, at a short distance from them - wall panels.

12. Paint + 3D panels

In the vast majority of cases, 3D gypsum panels are sold in white and are used for finishing in their original form. But when painted, they look much more interesting. In addition, the process of their harmonious entry into the color scheme of a certain interior is facilitated.

13. It's the other way around: frames… in the image

A wall pasted over with bright wallpaper can be filled with the same frames from floor to ceiling. So many different paintings will appear on the wall, while united by a common plot.

14. Democratic plastic

Plastic wall panels usually do not please with aesthetic characteristics, and are perceived as a material for temporary wall decoration. Therefore, we recommend spending a little more time than planned and finding high-quality plastic panels. Then the chances of creating a dynamic and stylish interior will increase significantly.

15. Drywall constructions are not always bad.

Complex drywall wall structures are a finish that most designers frown upon. But there are examples when drywall in the interior looks stylish. To stay within the bounds of good taste, we recommend that you consult with professionals when choosing a design form.

16. A novelty in the world of finishing materials - flexible stone

Such material is a stone chips or a polymer layer fixed on a flexible base. Bending stone allows you to recreate the texture of natural even on uneven surfaces of complex shape. At the same time, its cost is quite democratic.

When a general idea of unusual methods of wall decoration is obtained, it may be desirable to return to familiar and proven solutions. In this case, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with how

There are several types of wall decoration, each of which can be considered separately.

PAINTING

One of the most economical and simple options in wall decoration is still painting. In addition, it significantly saves time. Depending on the texture, the lacquer coating can be applied in one or two layers, with a certain stencil pattern, figured and volumetric texture. It is very important to choose the right color scheme, then the room will look more advantageous in the overall interior. Light shades will visually help to increase the space - this can be useful for finishing and repair work in small apartments. Dark shades, on the contrary, will make the room look smaller. When applied to walls, different paints are used. It can be water-based, acrylic or dispersion. Such paints not only give a high-quality result, but also prevent microclimate disturbance and moisture exchange.

WALLPAPER

To date, wallpapering is also a fairly common type of wall decoration. It does not require special efforts or special knowledge. The main thing is to do everything with high quality, picking up the elements of the picture, if any. Currently, the stores offer a huge selection of a wide variety of wallpapers.

  • Standard and most budgetary - paper wallpapers, which are unlikely to be applied with perfect quality and even overlap. Often there are still some defects.
  • Non-woven wallpaper is more common. Instead of ordinary paper, a special non-woven substrate is used, consisting of cellulose and synthetic fibers. This type of wallpaper gained its popularity for its convenience and ease of application and subsequent operation. Glue in this case must be applied directly to the wall. There are ready-made wallpapers with a pattern, as well as special ones for painting.
  • Another fairly budget option is glass. They are mainly used in office premises with subsequent painting. They are overlapped, and then cut off the excess.
  • Vinyl wallpapers are of high quality and an order of magnitude higher in the price category. Their service life is quite long (some manufacturers claim up to 15 years of service) and allows you to maintain quality for a long time. They are easily washable and various cleaning if necessary, the paint does not fade in the sun. Such wallpapers are quite elastic and dense, which ensures reliability and durability. If you properly prepare the coating and apply the wallpaper, then the effect of the integrity of the canvas will be visually visible.
  • Another very interesting and modern type of wall covering is liquid wallpaper. This is a special solution that is applied to the surface in liquid form. With it, you can get not only smooth walls, but also a certain relief, and a three-dimensional pattern without any joints or seams. The solution is environmentally friendly, applied and removed without difficulty, keeps the color perfectly and does not fade in the sun. You can use them in almost any room.

CORK COATING

This coating is supplied in rolls or tiles. It is intended exclusively for finishing the interior surfaces of the room. Basically, manufacturers offer light and dark brown colors, the closest to natural shades. The most important advantages of cork coating are excellent noise and heat insulation, as well as convenience and ease of application.

DECORATIVE PLASTER

This coating is quite original and modern finish. With her help, all repairs will be quick and easy. It is a special coating with texture. It is from the filler of the plaster, as well as the method of application and tools, that the appearance of the coating depends. Decorative plaster has its advantages:

  • Moisture-resistant, durable coating that does not lose its color and does not fade in the sun;
  • Environmentally friendly, can be used in children's rooms;
  • A wide range of colors allows you to use the coating in any interior;
  • In addition to the decorative look, with the help of plaster, you can easily remove small cracks, bumps and other defects;
  • Resistant to wet cleaning;
  • It can be applied to any surface - brick, concrete, foam concrete.

CERAMIC TILES

A fairly common and durable type of wall covering. Often used in the repair of bathrooms, toilets and kitchens. The main advantages are aesthetic beauty, practicality, moisture resistance, convenience and ease of care and washing. Shops offer a rich selection of colors, patterns and even textured tiles for any interior. It can be combined with additional elements, such as borders.

ARTIFICIAL AND NATURAL STONE

Artificial stone is a special facing material that looks very similar to the texture of natural stone. It is made from a mixture of sand and cement, as well as other materials with the addition of dyes. Its application is quite wide - from facing the external facades of buildings to interiors and living rooms. This is a fairly popular and budget alternative to natural stone finishes, distinguished by its lightness and ease of installation.

Natural stone is also very common, but it has a higher cost. The walls, in the decoration of which natural stone is used, are distinguished by a special warm and noble atmosphere. In addition, a distinctive feature is the strength to external mechanical and atmospheric influences, durability and high performance. Like artificial, natural stone can be used as a finishing material for the exterior facades of buildings and for interior decoration. A rich selection of different textures and types of stone gives imagination for creativity and the ability to choose the finish for any interior.

PONELI DECORATIVE

Modern finishing technologies provide another type of finishing material for walls - decorative panels. They are a great solution for kitchens, bathrooms or bathrooms. A rich range of colors and various types of textures allow you to choose the necessary panels for any interior. In addition, their use will greatly speed up the entire repair process, and subsequently greatly simplify maintenance and operation. The panels can perfectly hide any wall irregularities and other existing defects. On sale you can find this type of finish from a wide variety of materials: plastic, drywall, cork, chipboard / fiberboard, wood and others.

I told you about the main types of wall decoration. More clearly you can see some types of walls made by our craftsmen in our portfolio .

Thank you for your attention! Sincerely, Cyril!

Walls are a calling card, and when you enter an apartment, your eyes fall on them first of all, so the main attention during repairs is paid to these surfaces. The starting point in this difficult task will be the planning stage, that is, you must accurately imagine what you want, based on the available resources: the thorough footage of the apartment, location in relation to the sun, finishing materials and material costs in general. Unusual wall decoration with your own hands is not the easiest job, especially for a beginner.

Before starting work directly with materials, the walls must be prepared and leveled. Usually putty or plaster is suitable for this, in especially severe cases it is possible to cover the walls with drywall, although this leveling method “steals” part of the space.

Also often used for finishing and leveling. glass-magnesium sheet(SML) - a material obtained from magnesium chloride chips. Such a sheet is designed specifically for areas with high humidity and large temperature fluctuations. It is highly resistant to moisture, does not burn, it is easy to process, giving the desired shape.

Finishing LSU walls allows you to use this material as an independent coating, or as a base - paint, wallpaper, tile fit well on it. This material is easy to work with, no special skills are required.

It is most often used in interior and ceiling ceilings, as well as in the external cladding of a dwelling. Finishing the outer walls with this material allows you to better retain heat, improves the quality of sound insulation.

Well, the walls are aligned and you can go directly to the cladding. Various options can be used here - wall decoration involves a wide selection of decorative and finishing materials, this allows you to focus on what is preferable for you. Next, we will consider the most basic of them.

Main types of finishes

Coloring

Coloring is a rather old type of decoration, but it goes well with other types. Currently, there are a lot of types of paints, and they all have a variety of characteristics. But in order not to get confused, we will narrow the circle of searches.

To begin with, paints are divided into:

  • facade- for external finishing;
  • and interior- for internal.

We, of course, need interior. Then you choose where you paint.

  • For the kitchen and bathroom, it is better to use moisture-resistant paint.
  • For the hall and bedroom, you can take not moisture resistant.

Also look at wear resistance How often will you wash painted walls?

  • Water emulsion, today it is the most inexpensive and easiest to use. Most suitable for painting dry rooms, resistant to abrasion, that is, they can be washed. They are almost odorless and dry quickly.
  • Acrylic well suited for wet areas. When dried, they form an impenetrable matte film, which makes it easy to wash the walls. These paints mix well and form interesting color variations.
  • Oily, are suitable for any premises, but have recently been little used due to long drying and a specific smell, however, this type of finishing material is quite durable and hardly amenable to erasure.
  • Decorative, last generation paints. They allow you to create almost any visual effect on the painted surface - stone, wood, gold, velvet and much more. These paints are easy to apply, dry quickly and have high strength, are not afraid of washing. Among other things, decorative paints are also environmentally friendly, so they can be safely used, for example, in a nursery.

A separate niche in the painting industry is painting. Agree, an intricate hand-made pattern looks much more original, perhaps even a plot composition, than just plain painting.

You can do the painting yourself, or you can involve a child, fortunately, at present, the stores are full of paints that are easily washed off with ordinary soapy water. This is an ideal solution for a nursery, because there your child is the rightful owner and he will be delighted with the opportunity to draw on the walls. Bring in fabulous motifs, or draw your favorite cartoon characters - the atmosphere in any case will be very fabulous.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper, despite the development of the modern industry, remains in a leading position among wall coverings. As a rule, their price is the most reasonable, in comparison with other coatings. They are divided into paper, vinyl and textile, and each type has its pros and cons.

Wallpaper is one of the most interesting ways to decorate the surface of the walls.

  • Paper- there are smooth and embossed, with a pattern and for painting. The cheapest and easiest to use. Such wallpapers can be changed frequently. However, they cannot be washed. Also, they tear quickly and are highly flammable, so it is best not to place heaters close to or glue them behind the battery.
  • Vinyl very durable and water resistant. They are made of dense, as a rule, polymeric materials, which allows you to mask the unevenness and roughness of the walls well. But when glued, they tend to stretch, and then, as they dry, they return to their original size and shape, often forming gaps at the joints. They also do not absorb glue well, so the process of gluing them can be somewhat delayed.
  • Textile wallpapers not cheap, however, they are most suitable for those who like to experiment with the interior. They have good thermal insulation and sound absorption. But, unfortunately, they just as easily absorb dust and moisture. Clean only with a vacuum cleaner and a dry cloth. And it is not recommended to mount it yourself if there is no experience in this.
  • Wall mural, as a rule, are made of modern polymeric materials. Very popular due to the brightness and high definition of the image. Easy to stick on and long lasting. Depending on the material from which they are made, they may or may not be washable.

Decorative plaster

This decorative and unusual finish will be a real decoration of your apartment.

This type of finishing material is difficult to clearly classify, but they still have a conditional division.

  • Structural plaster is a mass of small pebbles, wood fibers, pieces of mica and other minerals. Finishing a concrete wall with this coating will allow you to fantasize in any direction, creating real masterpieces within a particular room. You can take care of such a coating with a soapy solution and a soft brush or rag.

Note! This type of finish goes well with staining.

  • stone plaster has no fundamental differences from the structural. Only inclusions are most often granite, stone or quartz, and in direct sunlight they look like pieces of multi-colored glass. Very original design idea.
  • Venetian plaster- a decorative material that accurately imitates natural marble. Apply several times in thin layers. Unfortunately, this material is very capricious, so only decorating professionals will be able to correctly apply it and achieve the desired visual effect. Pay attention to the photo above.
  • Also popular decorative putty plaster.

Ceramic tile

Ceramic tiles are a classic material for wall and floor decoration.

In order to use this material, you need to have a sense of style and at least the initial skills of a designer.

The tile is different in structure, size, color.

Note! With the help of tiles, you can both visually expand the available space and reduce it - it all depends on the colors and ornaments you use. For example, you can use small, mosaic or cubic tiles in cold tones - this will visually narrow, reduce space. If you use large cells and warm colors, the space will seem larger, more spacious.

The easiest way is to make a sketch, a sketch of your future room and experiment with colors and tile patterns. Laying it out is not difficult, the main thing is that the color of the grout does not contrast strongly with the color of the tile itself, does not distract attention to itself, creating a feeling of a cage. Ideally, if the grout is a couple of tones lighter, then the tile will look like a single ornament.

Wall panels

The biggest advantage of this finishing material, of course, is ease of use and the ability to decorate walls, ceilings, arched passages, finishing a niche in the wall with wall panels also looks quite organic. And if you handle them carefully, then you can use them more than once.

Wall panels are divided into rack, tile and sheet.

Finishing panels are made of MDF, natural wood, fiberboard, chipboard and some other polymeric materials.

  • natural wood- the most high-quality and environmentally friendly option, however, not the cheapest. As a rule, solid fragments of various tree species are used for such panels.

They are impregnated with special compounds that reduce the fire hazard and prevent insects from spoiling the wood. And on top they are covered with wax or varnish, which increases water resistance.

Recently, they began to produce tiles consisting of several layers - this increases the operating time and does not allow the wood to crack from water, temperature changes and direct sunlight.

  • Chipboard- chipboard tile, created by pressing hot chips and a binder composition. In terms of finishing qualities, it is not much inferior to natural wood, but it does not tolerate a humid environment and sudden changes in temperature - this can crack or delaminate, so it is better to use it in an unheated room. Also, chipboard is a rather fragile material, so it must be handled very carefully, otherwise it will crumble.
  • fiberboard- wood fiber tiles, also created by hot pressing using some other plant materials. However, fiberboard, unlike chipboard, tolerates a humid environment well, if there is no constant direct exposure to water on it, then it can swell and crack.
  • Polyvinyl chloride panels (PVC)- appeared on the market relatively recently, but are already actively used. Made of high-quality plastic, such panels are not afraid of direct water ingress, are practically not afraid of fire and are easy to mount.

On the surface of these panels, a pattern is applied that imitates wood, marble and much more, and on top they are covered with a special varnish, which prevents damage to the pattern from direct contact with water, light and protects against temperature extremes.

cork material

This material relatively recently appeared on our market, but has already managed to gain respect for itself, because it has many advantages. First and foremost is the natural origin of this coating.

It does not absorb moisture and does not slip, and also retains heat well. It is not very difficult to mount it if you follow a certain technique: all components must be at the same temperature, that is, glue, coated roll and sealant must lie down for some time (about two days) in the room.

By the way, when buying a coating, you need to keep in mind that part of it will go to repair possible errors and damage. After the coating is glued and completely dry, you can apply the sealant evenly, and preferably in several layers.

It will not only protect the coating from dust, sunlight and moisture, but also, in some types of cork coating, will allow the true wood grain to appear. As the sealant wears off, it can and should be reapplied. Once the finish has been properly treated, it can be cleaned, preferably with a mild, warm soapy solution and a soft cloth or brush.

Fabric trim

This finish is far from the cheapest among coatings. But the most comfortable, allowing you to create a warm atmosphere. The fabric itself is a tricky enough material to work with, but it can playfully cope with problems that wallpaper would not be able to handle. For example, hide roughness, protrusions and uneven walls.

Fabric, unlike wallpaper and paint, does not have to be the same in texture, density and color. It allows you to play with the space as you please.

In addition, a room decorated with this material has good acoustics, it is easy to put it in order with only warm water and soap, and it breaks much less than many wallpapers. The fabric has good air permeability and, as a rule, is a natural material, and in combination with foam rubber or synthetic winterizer increases the heat and sound insulation of the room.

Summary

Summing up everything that was described here, it should be noted that it depends only on you how your house will look like. And it depends only on you whether you and your family want to return there again and again. Even budget wall decoration, made by painting surfaces, has the right to be, and can be, quite attractive.

And the video in this article will help you finally make your choice, look!

Wall decoration in the room should not only meet the criteria of beauty, but also be practical. Therefore, for each of the rooms in the apartment, they select the appropriate “clothes”.

There are many options for finishing and design, and every year there are even more of them. They are becoming more and more diverse, there is plenty to choose from. If for walls in rooms that are intended for relaxation, finishing materials are chosen, relying more on their appearance, beauty, then for walls in the kitchen, more practical materials are mainly used that can withstand wet cleaning.

No matter how the kitchen is technically equipped: a powerful hood, a dishwasher, steam will still be released during cooking, greasy splashes from the stove, drops of water. In addition, how many people - so many tastes. Everyone wants to decorate the interior of the apartment at their own discretion, so that the design is not like any other, to show their individuality. Wall cladding can be very diverse, and there are no strict rules in this matter.

Ceramic tile

Man laying tiles on the wall

Traditionally, tiles are laid in rooms where increased requirements are imposed on the walls for wear resistance, moisture resistance, and the possibility of easy cleaning. These are bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms, industrial premises.

The tile perfectly withstands almost any load, it can be used both in the middle of the premises and outside. There are wall and floor tiles. Under the floor tiles, you can safely install a floor heating system.

The variety of shapes and colors allows you to choose ceramic tiles for any interior. Tile manufacturers produce material in whole series that have a common design.

For example, several options for wall tiles and floor tiles in the same color scheme, but with different textures and patterns. In addition to them, decor elements, various planks, patterned tiles, which also have the same color scheme, are additionally produced. But the choice should be approached carefully and carefully. This material is not so easy to take and change. Wall cladding with ceramic tiles is a “dirty” job, under the power of an experienced craftsman.

Laying tiles

Before laying, the wall must be marked with a pencil to find out the location of the tiles. For a guide and a base under the first row of the inflow, you need to glue a rail or a plaster beacon (they should be leveled with a level).

A layer of glue is applied to the base with a notched trowel-comb. The tile is carefully applied to the surface and pressed. Before gluing, moisten the product with water. In order to level the tile, use a rubber mallet that cannot damage the outer layer of the tile. For correction during laying, special plastic wedges can be used. Each row must be checked by level.

Tip: In order for the seams between all the tiles to be the same, use plastic crosses. They come in different sizes: the thicker the cross, the wider the seam will be.

Grouting

After the tile is glued, it should be allowed to dry and fix on the surface. After that, you can start grouting. Grout is a dry decorative mixture that is needed for decorative finishing of seams. It is produced in various colors. It is convenient to rub the seams with a special rubber spatula. Excess grout must be removed immediately with a damp cloth.

Applying stone

Wall cladding with artificial stone or natural stone is quite popular today. The procedure for working with stone is approximately the same as when laying tiles. The only difference is that the stone is a heavier material, so you should choose the appropriate glue for gluing it.

The combination of a fireplace and stone in the interior

In addition, if the pieces of stone are large, it is difficult to simply glue them to the surface. Therefore, if the stone plates are overall, then under each plate, from below, in order to ensure the stability of the material, small pegs are driven in, on which the stone tile will rest.

Stone has recently become an increasingly popular finishing material, but most often it is used in combination with other materials. For example, decorative stone islands are glued on a putty wall, while framing door and window openings with stone. Or, in conjunction with a wooden surface, the corners and part of the working wall in the kitchen are trimmed with stone. It also finds application for finishing the facades of buildings, decorative fences, arbors, fountains.

You can see the stone finish in the video below.

Drywall finishing

Wall cladding with plasterboard is used in the decoration of any type of premises. The popularity is explained by the fact that such sheets are convenient and easy to level any surface.

Man fixing sheets of drywall to the wall

The material is simple and moisture resistant. Moisture-resistant plates are used in rooms where there is high humidity, in bathrooms, kitchens. Gypsum boards are wall, ceiling. Gypsum fiber materials are used for the floor. Ceiling material is thinner and lighter, wall plates are thicker.

To decorate or install a rounded surface, there is a special “arched” material that can be bent.

There are two ways to install drywall boards:

  1. On the frame. In this case, a metal or wooden frame is first mounted. On sale there are special metal profiles for the device of such frames. They come in different sizes. For the ceiling structure, thinner profiles are used, for the wall they are wider and thicker. Before installing the structure, the walls, if they do not have significant damage, do not need to be specially prepared. The main thing is to set the frame evenly. After that, sheets are screwed to the frame using self-tapping screws. If you plan to strengthen the wall cabinets on the wall, then during the installation of the frame in the places where the cabinets will be attached, you should additionally install metal or wooden slats. Then furniture should be hung on these rails.
  2. For adhesive solution. The wall cladding technology in this case is as follows: a special glue for drywall is applied pointwise to the wall. In the people, this method is also called "glue on bloopers." Plasterboard sheets are glued to the mortar and pressed. Each sheet is checked for evenness by level.

Drywall can then be puttied and painted, you can glue wallpaper, tiles, stone on it. On a plasterboard wall, you can apply various textured plaster.

In general, such a surface most often serves as a basic base for subsequent decorative finishing. In the space between the base and the plasterboard, you can hide communication networks (pipes, electrics).

Variety of panels

Wall cladding with panels - this method of wall decoration is similar in installation method to laying drywall. Careful preparation of the walls is not required, the panels can be installed on the frame.

The difference lies in the fact that drywall is used as a material for leveling walls. After that, drywall should still be finished with other decorative materials. The panels initially have an external finish and design. They just need to be installed.

Variety of mdf panels

But the price of such material is much higher than the cost of drywall. Decorative panels can be made from various materials - wood, fiberboard, MDF, plywood, plastic, glass, including a mirror.

The surface of the panels can be matte and glossy, wood-like or with an imitation of another structure. Panels, depending on their strength characteristics, can be installed in almost any room. For the design of corners, transitions, joints, a number of additional structural elements are on sale. Sheets can usually be easily cut to size.
